There will be an early opportunity to see four of the Leicester team in action when the Rapid Solicitors Lions take part in Mads Korneliussen’s Testimonial on Sunday 16th March at King’s Lynn. Peter Ljung, Patrick Hougaard and Jason Doyle will join Mads in a Leicester team to race against Newport, Swindon and King’s Lynn in a Four Team Tournament.
“I just can't work out where the last 10 years have gone! It's been a great journey and I have learnt a lot about life itself. When I first came over I did not speak a lot of English and did not understand the whole system, but I'm very thankful for the people I got to stay with at Newport during the first two years of my time in the UK. I had Neil Street as team manager, and what he did not know about speedway is not worth knowing! He was a big inspiration for me, and taught me so much. I'm at a point in my career where it's now or never! Make the top or hang up the kevlers so it's the most important season for me, and kicking it all off with this meeting is just fantastic.”
The event, which starts at 3.00 pm, is already taking shape with the World number three Niels-Kristian Iversen, a confirmed starter and so too are Scott Nicholls, the seven-time British Champion, Grand Prix rider Kenneth Bjerre and the Elite League Individual Champion Rory Schlein.
“Mads has been a great servant to British Speedway and we are pleased that his services to the sport in the UK have been recognised with a Testimonial meeting. He is a well-liked and respected person and with King’s Lynn being just up the road so to speak from Leicester, I am sure that there will be a good turn-out of Lions fans to support Mads and of course to see the majority of the new team in action for the first time” added Leicester’s Press Officer, Alan Jones.
